Christmas at the Cabin
A Group Tour Package
November 26th & December 14th 2007
Experience an uplifting and joyous Christmas celebration this season in historic Dresden, Ontario! First regular Baptist Church, a black congregational church founded in 1857, will be your host for pioneer Christmas banquet.
YOUR EXCITING DAY INCLUDES: Preparation of your own Christmas pudding, topped with delicious caramel sauce. While your dessert bakes, you'll take in a guided tour of Uncle Tom's Cabin Historic Site, home of the Josiah Henson House. Enslaved for 41 years, Josiah Henson escaped from Kentucky and settled in Dresden, where he asserted his leadership as a preacher, an author, and a conductor on the Underground Railroad. He worked with energy and vision to improve life for the Black community in Upper Canada. Harriet Beecher Stowe used Henson's memoirs published in 1849, as a reference material for her novel, Uncle Toms Cabin. Henson's dramatic experiences and his connection with Stowe's book made him one of the most famous Canadians of his day.
Upon returning to the sanctuary , you will be energized by a sermonette delivered by a local minister. We’ll ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ some of those old spirituals that gave runaways the strength and courage to seek freedom in the North.
